DeAndre’ Houston-Carson may seem like just a special teams guy, but he had a very good career at William & Mary who has produced their fare share of NFL talent too. Houston-Carson tallied a total of 293 tackles, 10 interceptions and nine blocked kicks on special teams. That nine blocked picks kind of stands out. I think this shows the Bears are also putting a premium of building up the special teams. The 10 picks kind of stands out too. Especially on a Bears team that had only 17 total turnovers.

He also offers another trait coveted by the Bears organization and that’s positional versatility. He played both cornerback and safety in his college career at Willian & Mary. Bears are slowly but surely building up the bottom of the roster while insuring themselves from injury issues with all this positional versatility.

He can also play man or zone. Has the recovery speed to press and the instincts and recognition to play in zone. Bears like to mix their coverage’s up and players that can play in as many different sets get more snaps. He can also play in the slot and maybe take on tight ends with his size. Like a lot of these Bears picks he does need to get bigger though.

He’s also a good hitter too. He will really get behind his pads and plant you with a thud. Something receivers will find intimidating while he covers the deep middle and running backs will jeer when they see him fill coming downhill with a full head of steam.

Another coveted trait the Bears seem to be seeking are leaders with excellent football character. He was a team captain confirming his leadership and the respect that he commands from his teammates in the locker room. He oozes confidence and is an extremely bright football player.
