Chicago Bears Notes: June 1st
The Bears are officially 100 days away from the start of the regular season, so I figured it was a good time to start a weekly update on all things Bears related. There is no major news this week, but I’ll cover whatever has happened during voluntary OTAs and comment when necessary.
1.) With Alshon Jeffery still training on his own in Florida, Kevin White has been the de facto #1 WR and by most reports has been unstoppable so far in camp. His combination of size, speed, and explosiveness give him the potential to be a force at receiver once the games start. His ability to develop a rapport with Cutler over the next few months will be crucial in determining if White can take over the #1 receiver role from Jeffery.
2.) BGO’s Bill Zimmerman already covered this, but the Bears have released OT Tayo Fabuluje. He is the first of GM Ryan Pace’s draft picks to be released. Zimmerman covered it in more detail, but there were rumors of Fabuluje not keeping his weight under control and off-field distractions keeping him from realizing his considerable potential.
I didn’t mind the Fabuluje pick, as he did have the size and athleticism to be a force at right tackle, but it’s bittersweet as I had later picks like T Tyrus Thompson, DE Leterrius Watson, and DE Christian Covington rated much higher. Thompson has since been released by the Vikings, so maybe the Bears will make a claim.
