9. Christian Jones Has Moved to OLB
The Bears have done a lot of work to improve their linebacking corps, bringing in Pernell McPhee, Danny Trevathan and Jerrell Freeman in the last 15 months and drafting Leonard Floyd and Nick Kwiatkoski. Jones showed flashes to be a playmaker at the end of the 2014 season and earned a starting position at ILB in 2015 and rewarded the franchise by leading the team in tackles.
We know Jones can contribute, but is he a game breaker? Probably not, which is why the Bears decided to move him to OLB. While there is still talent there with McPhee, Willie Young, and Lamarr Houston to go along with the rookie Floyd, he still has a much better chance to impact the defense on the OLB position than from the inside spot.
It’s an uphill battle for Jones and he knows this will be a very important training camp and preseason for him. Nothing is guaranteed for him right now, but he definitely has a legitimate chance to earn a spot on the 53-man roster and contribute to the Bears in 2016.
