Former Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall believes Jay Cutler can be MVP in 2016.
It’s a complicated and curious relationship between Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler and former Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall. Their on again, off again friendship must be on again, as Marshall sat down with the Worldwide Leader and dropped this gem when referring to Cutler:
"“I’ll got out on a limb and say this again,” Marshall started as Max Kellerman urged him to stop talking. “I truly believe if Alshon Jeffery stays healthy, and then you have Kevin White, if this rookie can come in and catch 55-plus balls, Jay Cutler can be MVP this year. I truly believe that.”"

After seeing the clip, it reminds me why I don’t watch ESPN anymore except to watch a game. Stephen A Smith’s overreaction to Marshall’s comments was absurd and predictable. Smith even went on to perpetuate the lie that Cutler quit in the NFC Championship game. It’s been over five years – ENOUGH ALREADY!
Back to Marshall…
You’ll recall that Marshall took a dig at Cutler on his way out the door at the end of the 2014 season, saying he’d have buyer’s remorse too in regards to Cutler’s giant contract extension. Coincidentally, 2014 was the last time that Marshall predicted Cutler would win the MVP. Instead the Bears went 5-11 and ended the Phil Emery, Marc Trestman and Brandon Marshall eras in Chicago all in one fell swoop. I guess the season wasn’t a total waste after all.
At the end of the interview, Marshall went out of his way to tout “his brother” Alshon Jeffery, who’s in a contract year while playing for the $14M+ franchise tag. If Cutler, Jeffery and White can propel the Bears to their first postseason appearance since 2010, who knows, maybe Cutler can be MVP? I’m not holding my breath either.
