Akiem HicksYes– Hicks was a nice find from Pace in the offseason. He’s had a solid season for Chicago, although perhaps hasn’t had as much of an impact as the coaching staff would like. Hicks only signed a two-year deal, but he’s only 26 and only improving. It would be a shock if the Bears didn’t choose to resign him after 2017.
Eddie GoldmanYes– Goldman is rapidly becoming one of the best interior defenders in the NFL. He showed steady improvement during his rookie season and was a force early this year until a high ankle sprain shelved him. Goldman will be in the Navy and Orange for several years to come.
Jonathan BullardProbable– Bullard didn’t see much of the field early in the season and injuries slowed him after that. His playing time is increasing and he started to make some impact plays against Indianapolis. Bullard is a great athlete with a dynamite first step and should only continue to improve and cement himself on this roster.
Mitch UnreinDoubtful– Unrein is a John Fox-favorite and is a useful player. Unfortunately, his play is inconsistent and he doesn’t make enough of an impact to really be considered a long-term option. Eventually, Unrein’s replacement will be found.
Cornelius WashingtonDoubtful- Washington is having a very nice year for Chicago. He’s shown that he has some ability and could serve as a useful player. He’s in the final year of his contract and the Bears could consider keeping him after this season as a rotational player but it’s unlikely that Pace sees him as part of the Bears long-term plans.
Will SuttonNo– Sutton has also had a solid campaign for the Bears but unfortunately he hasn’t had quite the same impact as Washington and he’s been forced to play out of position at nose tackle because the Bears only have one true nose on the roster. The Bears will be in the market for another nose to rotate in behind Goldman and once they find that person, Sutton will be expendable.
