Is Marcus Lattimore even the top CB in the draft?

At the current moment, Lattimore may be the top-ranked CB in the draft, but that’s up for serious debate.  An argument could be made that he’s only the #1 guy by default.

Injury to the top CB

An injury may have paved the way for Lattimore to be the currently #1 ranked CB in the class.

Before the injury, most had Sidney Jones as the #1 guy.  Mike Mayock had Jones ranked above Lattimore before the injury.

He certainly looked like a future NFL star during his career at Washington.

Debatable Position Rank

With Jones injured, the #1 spot is up for grabs.  With the depth of this year’s CB class, it’s fairly debatable who should be the top guy.  There are about 10 CBs with first round grades from various sources, and some of that value is very likely to fall into round two.

Crazy athletes

Teez Tabor may be ranked higher than Lattimore.  It’s impossible to ignore the crazy athleticism of Tabor.  He’s a physical freak on the field when he’s motivated.  If the character concerns can be ignored, some could have legitimate belief that Tabor will be the better pro.

There is also a case to be made for a guy like Adoree Jackson.  There may not be a more explosive player in this year’s NFL draft.  Jackson has world-class speed and can play all over the field.  He showed excellence on offense, defense, and special teams.  He could easily be a guy that garners more interest come draft day.

Marlon Humphrey

Some simply prefer Marlon Humphrey to Lattimore.  Humphrey has comparable size, speed, and athleticism.  Humphrey actually showed production over the course of two years, unlike Lattimore.
