Chicago opens this season welcoming in the defending NFC champion Atlanta Falcons. That’s something that doesn’t happen too often.

The last time Chicago opened against a Super Bowl team from the previous season was when the Bears opened the 2001 season in Baltimore to face Ray Lewis and the defending Super Bowl champion Ravens. They lost that game 17-6. The last time the Bears actually faced a defending Super Bowl participant in their home stadium you have to go all the way back to 1996 when they faced the defending champion Dallas Cowboys. Remarkably, the Bears won that game 22 to 6. The Bears have their hands full if they want to repeat that outcome and take out the high-flying Falcons aerial assault.
