Outside Linebackers

1. Leonard Floyd
2. Pernell McPhee
3. Willie Young
4. Lamarr Houston
5. Dan Skuta

Inside Linebackers

1. Jerrell Freeman
2. Danny Trevathan- PUP
3. Nick Kwiatkoski
4. John Timu

Notable Cuts- Christian Jones, Sam Acho, Jonathan Anderson

The Bears have plenty of locks among this group, but like any position, there are plenty of question marks at the bottom. You can lock in Floyd, McPhee, Freeman, Trevathan and Kwiatkoski without any debate. Trevathan may not be ready for the season so he may start the year on PUP.

The rest of the linebacking group is open to competition. Willie Young continues to be a steady performer so expect him on the roster and the Bears could save plenty of money releasing Lamarr Houston, but being they have no real need to trim money off the roster, there is no reason to cut the veteran.

If the Bears keep nine linebackers, that means there are two more slots left. I like Skuta to take Acho’s roster spot and Timu performed well at times last year. If Trevathan starts the year on PUP, there’s a good chance a roster spot could open up for someone like Christian Jones. If the Bears only carry 3 inside linebackers, that would leave them very thin at the position heading into the season, but I think they’ll roll the dice knowing that Skuta can play outside or inside if need be.
