Re-Grading Chicago Bears 2007 NFL Draft
How has the Bears draft history fared in the past decade?
To spark up the offseason we are going to go back in time and regrade the Bears drafts of the past decade. Some will be a lot easier to grade than others but it will be a good exercise to look at recent history and compare it to what the team has and has not learned over its hits and misses. This edition, we will focus on the 2007 NFL draft.
1. Greg Olsen, TE, Miami
In retrospect, you have to give the Bears credit for the selection. Olsen’s tenure in Chicago did not go the way that he nor the franchise would have liked. Olsen started in just 39 games in four years for the Bears. He still has his career high in touchdowns in Chicago, 8 in 2009. However, any success that Olsen had in Chicago has been overshadowed immensely by the success in which Olsen had in Carolina. Olsen has gone five straight seasons with more catches, yards, and yards per reception than any season he has had in Chicago. It was mainly the coaching and scheme fit, but some injury issues and the inability for Olsen to bloom at the right time caused for this to be a miss. However, most would say Olsen with one of the last picks in the first round should be looked at as a success.
