Bob Stoops is retiring from head coach of the Oklahoma football team. Could the Chicago Bears be his next stop?

It what sent pretty big shock waves around the sports world, news came out earlier today that Bob Stoops would step down from his position of head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners and retire effective immediately.

There has been no indication as to whether or not Stoops will look to coach elsewhere or if he’d like to get away from football, but Stoops is only 56, and unless some other news follows, one has to think there’s an excellent chance that Stoops will get back into the coaching game at some point.

The NFL has come calling for Stoops multiple times, but he’s always been very happy to stay in Norman, OK. Without his loyalty to the Sooners, perhaps Stoops will give the NFL a much longer look. Could the Chicago Bears be one of those teams? There’s a definite reason why that might be the case.

Everyone knows John Fox is on the hot seat, and if this is indeed his last year as the Bears’ head coach, what direction will the Bears head? Well, Stoops will be just a few miles away as it turns out.

What does this have to do with Stoops coaching the Bears? Well, nothing really. However, if the Bears are looking to make a big splash, if Stoops wants to stay in Chicago and coach a team, that offer might be tempting for him to take.

Stoops is a defensive-minded coach and the Bears would probably bring in an offensive-minded coach to help mentor Trubisky. If the Bears aren’t worried about that and are more focused on making sure they bring in an established, big-time coach, Stoops could get a call.

What are the odds this happens? Honestly, you’d have to think they are quite low, but hey, fans think Fox stinks, they want blood, Stoops is apparently going to live in Chicago so why not start the rumor mill?
