2016 Season Review

Jonathan Anderson has been on and off the practice squad in each of his first three seasons in the league. He sent all of 2014 on the practice squad and in 2015 he performed decently when he subbed in and was an injury fill-in. Last season, his playing time decreased significantly. he appeared in just 8 games and tallied just 7 tackles. Anderson has been in competition with John Timu for a role on defense and on special teams, and last season Timu seemed to jump him on the depth chart.

Anderson showed promise in 2015 when he tallied 36 tackles and even had an interception, but that seems like a distant memory at this point. With the efforts that the Bears took to fortify their linebackers last offseason, Anderson struggled to find a place on the roster.

2017 Outlook

Anderson’s outlook is bleak. With Jerrell Freeman, Danny Trevathan, Nick Kwiatkoski and the addition of Dan Skuta, it seems that the Bears are quite set at linebacker and with other outliers like Christian Jones and Timu, it seems almost impossible that Anderson makes the roster, or potentially even the practice squad again.

Future with the Bears

The question isn’t whether Anderson has a future with the Bears at this point, it’s whether he has a future in the NFL. Anderson is currently a borderline practice squad spot on a below average roster. Expect Anderson to be looking for work in September and it’s questionable as to whether or not another NFL team scoops him up.
