36 Days Until Chicago Bears 2017 Season Kicks off: DeAndre Houston-Carson Profile

The Bear Goggles On Countdown to Kickoff series is now underway. With 36 days to go until the Bears season kicks off we will highlight the Bears player that is wearing number 36, DeAndre Houston-Carson.
2016 Season Review
DeAndre Houston-Carson’s rookie year was a quiet one for the Chicago Bears. Houston-Carson was drafted out of William & Mary with the hopes that he could become a special teams ace and become a secret weapon for the third phase.

While that still could happen, Houston-Carson’s rookie year certainly doesn’t indicate that it will. He appeared in eight games, recorded only two tackles, and didn’t make an impactful play in any games.
2017 Season Outlook
The safety position is crowded. Houston-Carson has really no chance to play in the secondary. He needs to make a name for himself on special teams. Right now, it’s less than a 50-50 shot he makes the roster. If he shows that he has become the special teams ace the Bears believe he can be, he will have a roster spot, but if he has another quiet August, he has zero chance to make the 53-man roster.
Future with the Bears
If Houston-Carson does fail to make the 53-man roster, his hope for a future with the franchise is on the practice squad. If he can earn one of the coveted 10 spots, he can take more time to develop his abilities and become the player that Ryan Pace hopes he will be.
If he starts showing flashes, the Bears will try to keep him around as long as they can. If he has a quiet August and is released by Chicago and doesn’t earn a practice squad spot, you have to wonder if any NFL team will consider bringing him aboard their taxi squad, otherwise, his NFL career could be ending. Simply put, this preseason is a critical one for the second-year safety.
