The Bear Goggles On Countdown to Kickoff series is now underway. With 35 days to go until the Bears season kicks off, we will highlight cornerback Johnthan Banks

2016 Review

Last season Banks bounced around to three different teams before winding up on the Bears. Banks started on the Bucs for the first five games of the season. Then, he was traded to the Detroit Lions, where he was only active for two weeks. The team cut him, and he wound up on the injury depleted Bears for the final few games of the season. Banks was active for the final two weeks, and saw the field some, making two tackles in that span.

2017 Outlook

While Banks saw the field some last season, this should be a defense in better standing than the year before. To start, they expect to be getting a healthy Kyle Fuller back this season. On top of that, Prince Amukamara and Marcus Cooper were signed, and both are locks on the roster. CreVon LeBlanc and Bryce Callahan were seeing the field more than Banks as it is, so there should easily be five names above him.

Sherrick McManis on special teams and players such as BW Webb and Rashaad Reynold in to compete, it will be a tough journey to the roster for Banks.

Future with the Bears

Banks was hardly given any guaranteed money and is an unrestricted free agent. The team is not attached to him in any way beyond training camp. If he does not make the roster, he will likely find work on another team by the end of the season.
