The Bear Goggles On Countdown to Kickoff series is now underway. With 30 days to go until the Bears season kicks off, we will highlight cornerback BW Webb.

2016 Review

BW Webb spent his 2016 season with the New Orleans Saints. On the veteran cornerbacks fourth team in as many years, Webb started a career high seven games. Webb made 27 tackles and defended 11 passes for the Saints. While the Saints defense is not necessarily strong, it is nice to know that the Bears added a depth cornerback with a history of playing experience.

2017 Outlook

Webb is going to be a stretch to make the roster. He profiles as a slot cornerback and spent most of his time there. Ahead of him in that spot is most certainly CreVon LeBlanc and Bryce Callahan. It could be argued Prince Amukamara is a slot option ahead of all of them with Kyle Fuller and Marcus Cooper on the outside. This leaves no room for error and little chances of a roster spot for Webb.

Future with the Bears

Webb will spend his fifth NFL season with his fifth different team whether it is the Bears or not. Webb is a journeyman and a depth player, and injuries and lack of depth are his only real reasons to make a roster. It would be a grind for Webb to make the roster, and he is not committed to the Bears in any way. In the Bears best case scenario, they are moving on from Webb in late August.
