The Bear Goggles On Countdown to Kickoff series is now underway. With 23 days to go until the Bears season kicks off, we will highlight cornerback Kyle Fuller.

2016 Season Review

Kyle Fuller underwent an arthroscopic knee surgery on August 18th, 2016. Fuller was placed on the eight-week injury-reserve list, however, he never saw the field during the 2016 season.  This summed up the Chicago Bears injury riddled 3-13 2016 season.

2017 Outlook

Fuller is on the outside looking in for the 2017 season. He will be battling for a roster spot on Ryan Pace’s new look defense. He is currently sitting behind starters Prince Amukamara and Marcus Cooper on the depth chart.

Fuller’s health and development are the main question marks for this season. Can he be healthy enough to stay on the field, or will he be sidelined by another injury? He needs to show he can understand and play in Vic Fangio’s defensive schemes, another cause for concern that was brought to light in the 2015 season.

Future with Bears

Fuller is very young 25 years old to start the season. He has plenty left to prove but hasn’t lived up to expectations set from his great rookie season. During his rookie season in 2014, Fuller totaled 4 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and 64 combined tackles. He looked to be a solid hit in the first round, and a potential number one cornerback for the future.

Fuller needs to continue to have a strong pre-season to secure a spot for this season.

The Chicago Bears and Ryan Pace already declined Fuller’s fifth-year option, which tells a tale in itself. He is on the roster bubble, and they are hinting that he will not be apart of the Bears future plans.

Rumors have circled that he could be a target for a trade by some contenders. Only speculation at this point in time, but his future is unclear.
