Jordan Howard’s Production Against Steelers’ Run Defense

It may be too soon to say, but running back Jordan Howard could be experiencing, what some may call, a sophomore slump. So far this season, Howard has rushed for only 59 yards, and is averaging a miniscule 2.7 yards per carry. This is a far cry from the 5.2 yards per carry he averaged during his rookie campaign. Even with the explosive rookie Tarik Cohen helping in the backfield, the Bears are ranked 26th in rushing. Howard did suffer a shoulder injury in last week’s loss to the Buccaneers, which could have played a role in his low numbers. The Pro Bowler has been limited in practice this week, but should still be ready to play come Sunday. However, it is not just Howard’s running against Pittsburgh’s eighth-ranked run defense that needs to be focused on, but his play as a receiver out of the backfield and his pass blocking against the Steelers’ blitzing will also be critical.
