Eddie Jackson joined the SiriusXM NFL Blitz and broke down his pick six against the Carolina Panthers.

Welcome to national prominence, Eddie Jackson.

While hardcore college football fans know all about Eddie Jackson from his days at Alabama and Chicago Bears fans have been watching Jackson develop throughout the first few months of his NFL career, not many other football fans knew much about Jackson before Sunday.

More from Bear Goggles On

Jackson made quite the splash with two defensive touchdowns, both of 75+ yards, one via fumble return and one via interception. Everyone knows the stats by now, Jackson is the first defensive player in the history of the league to have two defensive touchdowns of 75 yards or more in the same game and he’s the first rookie to have two defensive touchdowns of that length in the same season.

As Jackson gets praise heaped upon him, the national media has also started taking more of an interest in him. SiriusXM’s NFL Radio had Jackson as a guest Monday on the SiriusXM Blitz with Bruce Murray and Brady Quinn. Jackson had some interesting things to say about his huge game and his teammates.

Jackson first addressed what the mentality was for himself and the defense heading into the game:

"We went in there and wanted to get turnovers and force turnovers. One of our goals was to force three turnovers. But the way that [interception] played out it was just a blessing and it was a great play by my teammates to make that play happen."

Murray pressed Jackson on it further and asked specifically about the play and what Jackson saw and how the play developed:

"It was a great push by our front and Prince [Amukamara] was playing great coverage and he was able to deflect the ball. From there, we break on the ball, that is one of the things we are taught in the secondary is to break on the ball on tips and overthrows. I was just able to be there at the right place and the right time and was able to make the rest happen with my feet."

With the defensive unit playing stout the last few weeks, Murray followed that up asking him if the Bears’ defense was underrated by the national media heading into the season:

"Outside looking in, everyone is going to have their own opinions. We are all we got, so we stick with each other when everybody else turns their back on us and say what they have to say in the media about us . All we got is each other, we fight for each other, we know if we keep swinging day in and day out, we are going to keep getting better week in and week out. Like I said, we’re a team, we pick each other up, we’re all we got, so that’s our main focus."

Since the team’s 35-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers, the defense has looked superb and the Bears are 2-1 in the three games following that loss. They have a tough match-up coming up this week on the road against the New Orleans Saints. The Saints have won four in a row and have been putting up plenty of points, as they tend to do. If the Bears defense has another tremendous performance this week and leads the team to victory, the Bears will even up their record at 4-4 and the national media is going to have to start calling this team a playoff contender.
