Chicago Bears wide receiver Tanner Gentry has been waived once again

Tanner Gentry has bounced on and off of the roster, all season and his next stop is likely to the practice squad in what looks to be the third time in which the Bears had to release Gentry.

Gentry was released prior to the season and brought back onto the practice squad. He was called up for one week after Cameron Meredith went down, and was waived again when they signed Tre McBride. A few weeks later, Markus Wheaton got injured and Gentry was called back up. This time, Gentry had the chance to start. It did not go well and with Wheaton expected back in the lineup and Dontrelle Inman acquired via trade, he had become the odd man out. The Bears, again, hope to land him on the practice squad.

It is no surprise to see that Jonathan Anderson stepped in for Gentry.  Danny Trevathan has not practiced this week and is questionable. While Nick Kwiatkoski came back before the bye week, he only played one snap. If Trevathan were to miss this game the Bears would be down to three healthy linebackers, with one of them being worked slowly back in from a pectoral injury. To avoid a shortage of linebackers, Anderson would be the likely call to come up. He can play special teams, and with the Bears health and linebacker depth, he could very well play this week. The Bears now have five healthy wide receivers, making the corresponding move an easy decision.
