1. Before we look between the white lines, I’d like to go back a few months to the draft.  A lot was made of the Bears trading with the 49ers to move up one spot to select Mitch Trubisky.  We heard that John Lynch planned on taking Solomon Thomas all along but was shopping the pick.  Were there any suitors that were going to jump ahead of the Bears to get Trubisky?  Did Lynch fleece the Bears?   How have the collection of picks the Bears sent over been doing this season?

On the surface, it sure seems like Lynch fleeced the Bears. And for the 49ers, it was pretty much the best scenario possible — get the player you wanted all along while adding an additional three picks. But there are two things not widely discussed here. First, if Trubisky was the guy the Bears wanted all along, it’s no biggie. Especially if he turns out to be a very good quarterback. Second, I’m wondering if some of the other QB-needy teams out there were trying to move up to No. 2 as well, but we never caught wind of them. If so, that could have forced the Bears into making the move and offering more in exchange.

One of those picks was used to grab linebacker Reuben Foster at the end of Round 1, so I’d say that worked out pretty nicely. Another was dealt to the Saints for a second rounder next year, but it also landed the Niners a seventh-round pick, which they used to grab defensive back Adrian Colbert. Colbert has been a nice fill-in starter, and I’ve liked what I’ve seen from him so far.
