Can Running Game Get Back on Track?

The 49ers’ run defense is ranked 30th in the league, giving up an average of 129.5 yards per game. Throughout the year, San Francisco’s defense has allowed three running backs to gain over 100 yards on the ground (Todd Gurley, Ezekiel Elliott, and Adrian Peterson). Last week, Chicago faced the top run defense, and was held to only six yards on the ground. Running back Jordan Howard is fourth in the NFL in rushing with 847 yards, and had a big game against the 49ers in 2016 (117 yards and three touchdowns). If there was a game to get the running game back on track, this should be the one. This could possibly be a career day for rookie running back Tarik Cohen as well.
