The Chicago Bears should dominate the 49ers in the trenches

The San Francisco 49ers have a lot of issues. You do not get to 1-10 with a collection of talent. While quarterback has a lot to do with it, the 49ers offensive line is a major weakness as well. This is the area of the game where the Chicago Bears will have to dominate the 49ers in order to beat this struggling team.

49ers quarterbacks have been sacked 31 times this season. Of those, eight are attributed Laken Tomlinson, and six to Daniel Kilgore. Tomlinson did not even start the first two weeks either. That is their duo at left guard and center. Akiem Hicks will likely lineup on Brandon Fusco, but Mitch Unrein, Jonathan Bullard, and Eddie Goldman should be in great pass rushing situations to combine with the pure dominance of Hicks.

The 49ers have been a more efficient running offense than passing, but they still have had their issues up front in the run game. While their strength in pass protection has been right tackle Trent Brown, their weakness is his ability in run blocking. Brown was responsible for just 1.5 sacks allowed this season. However, the team’s adjusted line yards to the outside right is 2.59, ranking 29th in the NFL.

This is another aspect where Hicks can have an impact. It also will call on the rotation of Sam Acho and the newly re-signed Lamarr Houston. If they can set the edge in this game, the run game will be forced to run left.

The Bears are in a matchup where they should win on paper. This is going to show up in the trenches, and it could be the difference in the game.
