The Ups and Downs of General Manager Ryan Pace
We don’t really want to see Pace’s career defined by one bad draft pick but when people think of the NFL draft and Pace, they think of one pick in particular. Kevin White. Why? Well, there is a myriad of things that make White what people are going to compare Pace’s draft strategy against until someone else steps up and takes our mind off of him.
First of all, White has hardly played any games since coming to the Bears. He has spent most of his time on the sidelines with injuries and hasn’t contributed. And when he has been in the lineup, he hasn’t done too much. He barely did anything this past preseason and left some wondering if he was still tentative from being injured (worried about being hurt again) or if he was very rusty. At any rate, White hasn’t proven himself worthy of the Bears’ first-round selection and should be classified as a bust.
Overall, Pace’s first draft was a bit sketchy. Jeremy Langford and Tayo Fabuluje are gone. Hroniss Grasu isn’t really that good and of course White has struggled. Perhaps it was the first draft jitters that caused him some problems with that first draft. Pace’s second draft produced some decent talent as all but one of the players are still on the team. And of course, his third draft this past May produced some guys who are having an immediate impact on the team.
So, you can say that the drafts have gotten better since Pace’s first draft. Hopefully, they will continue to get better as the years move on.
