Was Danny Trevathan a Pro Bowl snub? We examine.

If it wasn’t for Akiem Hicks dominating offensive linemen throughout the season, Danny Trevathan would probably be the team’s MVP. Trevathan has been the best player on the defense throughout the second half of the season and was still solid during the first half.

Trevathan has the best overall statistics of any defender. He’s second on the defense with 76 tackles, he also has 2 sacks, 4 passes defended and an interception. On top of that, he grades well on PFF as well, scoring as the 7th best NFC linebacker.

Here’s where Trevathan runs into a problem, Pro Bowl rosters only take 2 inside linebackers. The two inside linebackers that earned spots on this year’s squad are Luke Keuchly and Bobby Wagner.

Wagner and Keuchly are the two highest graded inside linebackers in the NFL this season. Wagner and Keuchly have combined for 77 more tackles than Trevathan. They also both have more interceptions and passes defended than Trevathan as well.

Finally, Trevathan has missed 4 games this season due to injuries and a suspension. Quite simply, Keuchly and Wagner have been superior to Trevathan in every single aspect of the game. Trevathan is having an excellent season, but he isn’t at a Pro Bowl level.
