It may sound crazy, but there are whispers of Sean Payton heading to Chicago to coach the Chicago Bears

It may take some tin foil hat wearing and some hefty believing, but there are still rumors that Sean Payton will be getting out of New Orleans soon. With that in mind, the Sporting News has speculated that Chicago would be the fit, if he were to move on.

Eric Galko writes

"— Could Sean Payton leave the Saints? The Bears might be an enticing option if he wants a fresh start. He’s familiar with Bears GM Ryan Pace from their time in New Orleans together. He was a big fan of Mitchell Trubisky in last year’s draft. And the Bears (if they cut Mike Glennon) have the cap space to potentially bring Drew Brees to Chicago. It’s unlikely with Payton in the playoffs, but sources all year have said Payton will at least explore other opportunities."

This would be a mind blowing, game changing retaliation. The strings piecing this together right now? Galko has firm belief that Payton was interested in Trubisky. Pace came up in New Orleans and clearly has a relationship with Payton and Drew Brees. It would be a nice transition for Payton a team with a quarterback, knowing the time is ticking with Brees.

Speaking of Brees, Galko also did not leave out the possibility of the Bears cutting Glennon and using that money to bring in Brees. Could you imagine Brees, fully buying in to the idea of mentoring Trubisky while he takes one last season with the Bears.

The defense can be good. If the Bears add a wide receiver or two, and did find a way to pull off the Payton and Brees combination it would turn them into a Super Bowl contender over night. Is this realistic? Unlikely. Is it at least on the mind of Sean Payton if this is being reported? Most likely.

The article goes on to mention that if the Bears swing and miss on Payton that John DeFilippo is the favorite for the job.
