Chicago Bears Draft Scout: Akrum Wadley
Fit with Chicago?
You may think that the Bears aren’t in the market for a running back, but they could be. They will have Cohen and Jordan Howard for sure while Benny Cunningham is on a one-year contract. They also have Taquan Mizzell who is signed through 2019 but they have no idea what they have in him. There is a door open for a running back.
The Bears would not use a first or second round draft pick on a running back. They have seven picks in the draft right now one in the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th and 7th and two in the fourth. They do not have a pick in the third round.

Wadley won’t be going in the early rounds, but this writer has him pegged to be a third or fourth-round pick. Should the Bears decide they want to draft him, then look for them to draft him with one of the two fourth-round selections that they have. That would be just about the right position to take him.
If they were to draft Wadley, what would they do with him? He can make his mark on special teams. They have Cohen to return punts so perhaps Wadley could be their kickoff return specialist. He could also play on the coverage units going down the field to make the tackle or block. Perhaps he could eventually work his way into a rotation with Howard and Cohen and see some touches. Thanks to his pass catching ability, he might be able to split out as a slot receiver.
If the Bears are in the market for a third-string running back, Wadley could be their guy. Of course, it will depend on what happens with Cunningham and Mizzell but he’s a possibility.
