Chicago Bears Stay or Go: Mike Nugent
Should the Chicago Bears extend Mike Nugent, or let him walk?
Mike Nugent spent the last four games with the Chicago Bears. Did he do enough to be brought back for training camp?
Stay
Nugent was 4-4 in his four game trial as the Bears kicker. He hit one from over 50 yards and two over forty yards. The Bears kicker issues have been ridiculously bad since letting Robbie Gould walk. It feels like a curse. It is hard to go into the offseason and be assured that you will find a kicker better than Nugent by the time camp rolls around. What does it really hurt to keep him around? The Bears might as well sign Nugent, but cautiously explore options for camp competition. There is no harm, so they might as well bring him back.

He still missed two extra points on just nine attempts. It is not like we walked away from the Mike Nugent signing knowing that he was a kicker for the future. In fact, it felt more like he was a part of the curse, And bring him back? Why? To do the same thing as Roberto Aguayo last season? It would be hard to explain bringing back Nugent and telling fans that you have exhausted all avenues That seems like the ceiling for Nugent, who has always struggled under pressure with kicks, but has consistently found jobs from teams who cannot find kickers. This new staff needs to find a kicker, and it should not be Mike Nugent.
