Should the Chicago Bears extend Kendall Wright, or let him walk?

Kendall Wright was the best wide receiver on the Chicago Bears in 2017. However, he was only signed to a one-year deal. Should the Bears re-sign him or let him walk?

Stay

On a team with limited assets at wide receiver, Kendall Wright is an asset at wide receiver. Letting him go would be crazy. He led the team in targets by 34, catches by 35, and yards by 338. Where are they going to replace his production from? The only way Wright will not return is if he personally did not want to play for the team anymore, or if he thought he was worth some astronomical amount.

With that said, what if he does outprice himself? A lot of people have speculated this receiving corps needs a complete rebuild. That does not mean spending excess money on a player who was on the team last season. Wright leading the team in receiving is more of an indictment on the group he was working with than it was his actual play. If he is asking for real money, or a long term commitment, it is arguable that the Bears can find slot guys with average yards after the catch ability. The Bears cannot look at a player with the ceiling of Kendall Wright and think of him as a must keep type of a player. At the right price, sure. However, everyone has a stopping point, and if Wright finds a legitimate offer on the market, it would not be a crushing loss.
