Chicago Bears Draft Scout: Mike McGlinchey
Fit for Chicago Bears?
Tackle is a position that is going to be pushed up draft boards due to its value. Is McGlinchey worth the eighth overall pick? The person who would know is offensive line coach Harry Hiestand. Hiestand coached McGlinchey throughout his career and is now helping the Bears decide on him and Quenton Nelson early into this draft.

The fact of the matter is that while the Bears could get better at tackle, it is not the glaring weakness of the team. McGlinchey also does not have the Joe Thomas outlook of a year in, year out All-Pro. He is not quite the impact player, as mentioned, a solid starter should be the expectations.
The fact of the matter is that they could draft him. Of the two, Bobby Massie is leaving before Charles Leno is. McGlinchey could start his NFL career like his college career and start at right tackle, and eventually be a ten-year starter for the Bears. However, better tackles could emerge over that time, but the Bears pass on them because they are good enough. In the top ten, you have to shoot for the stars, and McGlinchey may not be that.
