Fit for Chicago

If the Chicago Bears were to draft Williams, he would likely move to guard or right tackle. His reach would not be as big of an issue at right tackle, but with Josh Sitton gone from the picture, he could very well end up playing guard.

The good news about adding an offensive line coach such as Harry Hiestand from Notre Dame comes more than just from his familiarity with Notre Dame offensive lineman. He also has followed offensive lineman such as Williams from high school, as he decided how hard to recruit the talented tackle.

So while everyone will link Hiestand to Mike McGlinchey, and Quenton Nelson, he may be eyeing up a Connor Williams because he knows better. This would be similar to Pete Carroll taking Earl Thomas over USC’s Taylor Mays.

Williams is unlikely to be a top ten pick, and very well could find himself in the second round if the reach becomes a real question. If the Bears are looking to trade down or pass on Quenton Nelson in the top ten, a player such as Connor Williams could be around, and could be a strong addition.
