How likely is it that Trey Burton is Chicago-bound?

It doesn’t take John Madden to realize what the focus of the Chicago Bears’ 2018 offseason has been: offense. It started with hiring Matt Nagy, who had a man-crush on Mitch Trubisky long before he took the Bears’ head coaching job. It continued with hiring a coaching staff consisting of Mark Helfrich and Brad Childress.

The next step in the Bears offensive overhaul is free agency. As the NFL is on the cusp of the signing period, the Bears have been involved with several rumors involving potential targets for the team. It’s not surprising that all of them involve offensive players. The Bears have been involved in rumors surrounding Jarvis Landry, Albert Wilson and even Allen Robinson.

The Wilson rumors have reached giant bonfire status. There is a lot of smoke around Wilson and Bears fans should be confident that the former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver should be in Chicago in 2018, while nothing is a lock, that’s about as close as it can be.

There hasn’t been a lot of smoke around free agent tight end Trey Burton at this point, but one NFL insider thinks that Burton might be Chicago bound.

Allbright is an up and comer when it comes to NFL information. He has been very accurate with a lot of the information he pushes out there. Burton is a perfect fit for Nagy and how he utilizes the tight end position. Would Burton come to Chicago? It won’t be without competition.

Some other social media platforms have said while those 16 have gauged Burton’s interest, there seem to be four that are in the running:

While NFL Update is kind of a generic social media account, they push out generally good information, they are certainly not out to just gain followers with clicky, non-sensical tweets. The four teams, after really looking around the league are most likely Chicago, Minnesota, Green Bay and San Francisco.

The news is going to come fast and furious on Monday when the legal tampering period begins. The Bears have already been focused on Albert Wilson, the smart money is on Wison to be the first free agent to sign with Chicago. Could Burton be second? It certainly makes sense. Pace knows he can’t wait to just draft more players and wait for them to develop, he has enough young pieces on the roster now that it’s time to step it up in free agency and fill some holes and make some strides on the field in 2018.
