New Details about Ryan Pace’s Masterful Job with Kyle Fuller
More details emerge about how Ryan Pace is dominating this offseason.
People love to criticize Ryan Pace. No matter what the guy does, the fans, the pundits, they all want to knock him. While his record in the first three years of his tenure isn’t great, the team was built from basically scratch as part of a massive rebuild. But if people aren’t complaining about Pace, they aren’t happy.

Case in point- Kyle Fuller.
First, the uneducated said Pace screwed up not exercising his fifth-year option on Fuller. Anyone that watched Kyle in year two with a year-long injury in year three knew that wasn’t a good idea based on his resume at the time. After that, they said it was stupid to transition tag him (it was actually brilliant), and once the Bears matched the Green Bay Packers offer sheet within two hours, they said he should have waited the full five days and still ripped him.
It wasn’t enough that they re-signed Kyle Fuller and got him on a reasonable contract, it was now that he didn’t wait long enough. But then this news came out earlier:
Cohen is a Packers beat writer for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. This should be music to Bears’ fans ears. Not only did Pace let the market set Fuller’s contract, they announced within two hours that they would match the Fuller offer but kept the Packers tied up with the offer for five full days before filing the paperwork and keeping him in Chicago.
The Packers need secondary help, knew they weren’t getting Fuller, and couldn’t do anything for five days because that contract is held against their cap until the Bears officially match. That is how you handle a restricted free agent. Plenty of people want to knock Pace, but if this season goes the way the offseason has gone, plenty of fans and analysts will be eating crow this fall.
