Strengths
Tre’Quan Smith is a very fluid mover for his size. He is a solid route runner and is able to use size, quickness and fluidity to get in and out of breaks and create space down the field. Smith has strong change of direction and change of speed, as highlighted below.
Smith’s fluidty also shows in his balance. This allows him to create after the catch.

Tre’Quan Smith plays smaller than his size. Press coverage can be an issue for him. He is a finesse receiver who uses his balance and quick movements to create separation, but does not use his length, size and strength as much. Contested catches are not the calling for Smith. He can make adjustments to passes in the air, but cannot pull down passes with defenders in the area.
He also has issues with concentration drops. As shown below, a quick misdirection route out of the slot gets him space over the middle. However, a ball bounces off of his hands and into the air with the possibility of being intercepted.
