Comparison and fit for Chicago Bears
Kenny Golladay, Detroit Lions
Last season, the Lions got themselves a big slot option for Northern Illinois in the middle to late rounds. This year, the Bears could get theirs in Tre’Quan Smith.
Smith likely has better top end speed, but Golladay is better in terms of contested catches. The idea is that both possess decent size and length, but both can work underneath out of the slot. Neither are strong against press and much better with a free release. Smith may not have a similar rookie year, but in terms of role, it is a similar idea.
Fit for Chicago Bears
While many forecast Cameron Meredith in a Bears uniform, it is not like he is currently signed. Meredith may be back, but with really one season of some good production and a major knee surgery does not mean the team cannot try to find a player with a similar skill set in the draft. In the worst case, Smith uses his speed and size on special teams, while gaining a physical edge to the game. From there, the team can adjust and see where they are at the position. Smith could definitely be a player on the Bears board in the fourth or fifth round.
