The Chicago Bears are in primed position to trade down. If so, they may be targeting Isaiah Oliver

Yes, it is lying season. Still, Tony Pauline is one of the more connected sources when it comes to the NFL draft that there is. Therefore when he says something, it is at least worth noting. His name is out there for a reason. Pauline mentioned this week that the Chicago Bears would be in prime position to trade down from pick eight and recoup some of what they lost in the Mitchell Trubisky trade.

If the Bears were to trade down, Pauline wants Bears fans to keep their eyes on Isaiah Oliver. Pauline writes:

"Depending how far the Bears trade down, assuming they do, expect Isaiah Oliver to be one player they consider selecting. I’m told the team is picking the brain of University of Oregon defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt, who held the same position at Colorado, about Oliver’s next-level potential.Leavitt is a close friend of Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and has been relied on in the past for information on players he coached at Colorado such as Chidobe Awuzie and Ahkello Witherspoon. Word is that he’s giving the Bears rave reviews on Oliver."

Given that Awuzie and Witherspoon had better than expected rookie seasons, if Levitt gives the same sign off, it is a good backing.

Oliver is a high upside cornerback. As we profiled, his length, size, speed and athletic profile present everything you want from a high upside cornerback in the draft.

However, in terms of instincts he is raw. One thing is for certain, pick eight is too high for Oliver. However, in a trade down towards the middle of the first round, it is not out of bounds.

One thing that is interesting is the Bears interest in cornerback. Denzel Ward was brought in and appears to be a Bears favorite. Josh Jackson spent time in Chicago as well. Now, Isaiah Oliver. What makes this interesting is that Prince Amukamara and Kyle Fuller were extended. How high the Bears take a cornerback and who they invest in should not be monitored because the smoke is there that this is a position of interest.
