In one of the most important selections in the creation of the 1985 Bears’ defense was the selection of Wilber Marshall in 1984.

Marshall was arguably the most important player on the 1985 defense and was one of the most dominant players in the entire NFL.

Marshall was a true playmaker. He was a sure tackler, a dominant pass rusher and was able to drop back into coverage as well. He had a nose for turnovers and making plays, none more famous than his return of an Eric Dickerson fumble for a touchdown in the NFC Championship game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Marshall only played four seasons with the Bears. After a contract squabble, he went onto several outstanding seasons with the Washington Redskins, including helping them win a Super Bowl in 1991.
