Jimbo Covert is one of the best offensive linemen in the history of the Bears’ franchise. Covert was selected No. 6 overall in 1983 and instantly became a starter for the team.

He was First-Team All-Pro in both 1985 and 1986 (including 2 Pro Bowl spots), missing just one game in his first four seasons.

Covert’s accolades didn’t stop there. Covert was also All-NFL multiple times by multiple other media outlets. He was named Offensive Lineman of the Year in 1986. In 1990, he was named the tackle for the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team.

After 1986, Covert began to slow down. In 1987 and 1988 he struggled with injuries. By 1990, Covert had a significant back injury that forced him to miss the entire 1991 season and in 1992 Covert decided to call it a career.

Had Covert had more longevity, he would have been a lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but for now, he continues to wait.
