Round 2, Pick 39: Sam Hubbard, EDGE, Ohio St.

While Hubbard may not be “twitchy,” he’s strong, plays with solid technique and has no quit. One could never question his love of football once he was fully transitioned into it full-time. The lack of true burst may be a concern off the edge but the pad level, technique and the room to clearly add muscle to his frame may allow him to stick his hand in the dirt and play 5-technique, if that is the position the team projects him to play.

He is another very good athlete who was actually recruited to play lacrosse out of high school for Notre Dame before accepting a scholarship to Ohio St. to play football.

*Pace has a history of going big and in the trenches round two. From Goldman to Whitehair to last season with Shaheen (though yes, he’s a tight end). Hubbard is a big, physical EDGE player who may not have the ceiling of  Arden Key or Lorenzo Carter also comes without the question marks of a very low floor. While not the sexiest pick, Hubbard fits schematically and the trends of Pace’s draft past.*
