Minkah Fitzpatrick

Over the last few years, defensive backs from the Alabama Crimson Tide have had success in the NFL. Last year, two budding stars were selected in Bears Safety Eddie Jackson and Ravens Cornerback Marlon Humphrey. For the second consecutive year, Fitzpatrick could continue that tradition.

Despite every starter from the Bears secondary returning in 2018, it’s likely that Prince Amukamara or Bryce Callahan may not be on the team in another two seasons. Adding new blood to the position could benefit the Bears, not just now, but also in the future.

In a pass-happy league, Fitzpatrick’s athleticism, lateral speed, range, and versatility would come in handy. He’s a very smart player who, while at Alabama, showed the ability to effectively play anywhere in the secondary. Be it single-high safety or as a Nickelback, wherever he lined up, he made his presence felt.

It’s more than likely that Fitzpatrick is available at number eight. As mentioned above, with nearly every defensive back that started returning for the Bears in 2018, it doesn’t seem likely that Fitzpatrick will be very high on the Bears radar, however, as a top prospect, he’s worth considering. He gives the Bears another leader to add to a young, emerging locker room and looks to be a player who can be a voice in the Bears locker room for years to come.
