2018 NFL Draft: Day Two Trade Scenarios for the Chicago Bears
By Usayd Koshul
Over the last two NFL Drafts (2016 and 2017), Ryan Pace has used the Bears second-round selections to trade down. Could he do so again tonight?
As the NFL’s busiest week of the offseason rolls on, many fans are focused on who will be selected where when the second-round beings tonight. However, keep in mind that the Bears still do not possess a third-round pick and with many players who were projected to go in first-round still on the board, the Bears have a good opportunity to strike a deal.

Currently, the Bears possess the following picks:
Round Two: Pick 39
Round Four: Picks 105 and 115
Round Five: Pick 145
Round Six: Pick 181
Round Seven: Pick 224
With six picks left, there is some room for flexibility and all options should be on the table with regards to trading.
Without further ado, below you’ll find some trade options the Bears should explore.
For the Bears to acquire a third-round pick, they’ll likely have to talk to teams that have multiple second-round picks. The Indianapolis Colts, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Cleveland Browns do not make sense as their asking prices would be too high.
However, there are two AFC teams that make sense for Ryan Pace to call: The Broncos and Steelers.
Bears get: 2018 second-round pick (60th overall), 2018 third-round pick (79th overall)
Steelers get: 2018 second-round pick (39th overall)
On the NFL’s Draft Value Chart, the thirty-ninth pick is worth 510 picks, while the sixtieth pick is worth 300 points and seventy-ninth pick is 195 points In total, the value of both the Steelers picks comes out to be 495 points.
This deal makes sense for both teams for many reasons. The Steelers get to move up twenty-one spots on the draft board. The Bears on the other hand, still get to have a second-round selection, but also gain a third-round selection in the process.
The second AFC team, the Denver Broncos also have two third-round selections. A trade between the two teams could look something like this.
Bears get: Second-round (40th overall), third-round (99th overall)
Broncos get: Second-round (39th overall), fourth-round (105th overall), sixth-round (181 overall)
As mentioned above, the 39th overall pick is worth 510 points, while the 40th pick is worth 500 points. The Bears first fourth-round selection is worth eighty-four points, while the Broncos second third-round selection is worth 104 points.
The reason such a deal makes sense is due to the fact that John Elway won’t have to give up much to get anything. Additionally, the Broncos have the 71st pick in the third-round as well, so giving up the 99th overall pick is practically giving up a fourth-round selection.
Conclusion
The Broncos and Steelers are two teams that present very good opportunities for the Bears to trade down with. Whether it’s just one spot or a making a move to the back half of the second-round, Ryan Pace has a few options on the table. In 2016, he traded down twice in the second-round before selecting Cody Whitehair, so there is a chance he could decide to trade down multiple times as well.
