Chicago Bears: NFL Draft Round 2: 5 Names to Watch at 39
1. Will Hernandez, G, UTEP
Despite Landry being the biggest slider of day one, Hernandez should be the Bears top target. The Bears have a gaping hole right now at guard and Hernandez is good enough to step in and start immediately. Hernandez is another guy who has a first-round grade and the Bears could get a great value with this pick.
Plenty of Bears’ fans were agitated when Quenton Nelson wasn’t available to them with the eighth pick but if the Bears manage to land Hernandez in the second round, while obviously there’s a drop-off, Bears’ fans will be quite pleased with Hernandez. The trio of him, Cody Whitehair and Kyle Long still forms a very strong interior offensive line. Hernandez has a great worth ethic but does have short arms, but with the great Harry Hiestand working with him, he could develop Hernandez into a Pro Bowl-caliber guard.
