Cavon Walker could be one of the Undrafted Free Agents to keep a serious eye on. He is an off the ball linebacker turned defensive lineman.
Walker went to Maryland and played his first two seasons as a linebacker. However, a foot injury sidelined him. In the time in which he was sidelined, he was lifting weights. In that time, he put on a lot of muscle, and became a bit too slow for his position.
However, he is strong for a defensive lineman now. In two years he has 4.5 sacks and 15 tackles for loss. Considering he never played the position and was in the Big 10, that is respectable.
He fell under the radar and did not get an invite to the NFL combine. He checked into his Pro Day at 6′”, 285″ pounds. He can line up on the edge and potentially slide inside for passing downs.
For a player such as Cavon Walker, you are not expecting him to make the roster in 2018, although that would be a pleasant supeipse. You want to see him buy into your defensive system and want to grow on the practice squad. If he does, you can have faith letting him go through waivers and you have a nice little project on your hands. It will be interesting to see if he can show that talent worth buying into this summer.
