TCU safety Nick Orr was announced as an Undrafted Free Agent for the Chicago Bears

As we continue to track Undrafted Free Agents, the announcement of safety Nick Orr has been made. Orr is a safety for TCU.

Here is the Nick Orr highlight video

Orr is a heavy hitter and bring it whether running down hill or in centerfield. However, he was no invited to the NFL combine. It is clear that he is not the smoothest or most fluid athlete, and his Pro Day did not take those notions away.

NFL Draft Bible’s scouting report said:

"Three-year starter who has played both cornerback and safety but has started predominantly at safety over his final two and a half seasons for the Horned Frogs. Reads the quarterback well and is quick to react, shows natural ball instincts. Displays a fluid backpedal and sound footwork overall. Knows how to play the sideline to his advantage in man coverage. Plays bigger than his size and doesn’t shy away from taking on blocks and battling through the traffic to make the tackle. Will shoot into the backfield from the outside and collects a handful of tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Has been a constant on defense, making plays in the clutch and providing the team with a defensive spark when needed."

Nick Orr comes from an entire family of football players. His father, Terry Orr is a Super Bowl winning tight end from his time in Washington. He spent nine years in the NFL. His brother Chris plays at Wisconsin, and brother Zach retired from the Ravens recently. He also has a brother at North Texas.

Orr comes in with football smarts, football power, and a passion to hit. The question will be if he is athletic enough to make the full transition. Most would see him being a strong safety in the NFL playing in the box.

His downhill mentality and physical demeanor also makes him a good option for special teams. Still, he will have to fight through a crowded safety group to stand out.
