The time to grade drafts is now! But not the 2018 Draft classes, these kids haven’t even played an NFL snap yet. However we can look back to judge how previous drafts have turned out. Lets look back at Ryan Pace’s first draft class with the Chicago Bears.
2015 Chicago Bears Draft grade D
Why a grade of D? Lets go through the Chicago Bears picks
Round 1, Pick 7–
Kevin White. I shouldn’t have to write anything more. 3 seasons, 5 Games, 21 catches, and193 yards receiving. Every single season cut short with injury. Anything the Bears get from White from here on out is a bonus. They declined to pick up his 5th year option, and he is playing for a future in the NFL this year.

Round 2, Pick 39–
Eddie Goldman. He is one of the reasons this grade is not a F. Goldman has been a productive player, but not a star which you’d like to see from a 2nd round pick. Missed most of the 2016 season with injury. When healthy he can be effective at the nose tackle in the 3-4 defense. 27 tackles in 2017 is something to build on, but its all about pressuring the QB up the middle.
Round 3, Pick 71–
Hroniss Grasu. He has been one of the biggest disappointments from this draft class. If Grasu was a better talent, Whitehair could have stayed at guard, and money would never have been spent on Josh Sitton. And there would be no reason to spend a 2nd round pick in 2018 on James Daniels either. Grasu missed the 2016 season with injury, and at best is now a backup center.
Round 4, Pick 106–
Jeremy Langford. He was cut by the Bears at the start of the 2017 season. Was productive as a rookie, with 816 yards from scrimmage and 7 td’s. But then Pace drafted Jordan Howard, and Tarik Cohen, and there was no room for Langford. He hasn’t played in a game since being cut by the Bears. The fact that a 4 round pick from 3 years ago isn’t still on your roster means that pick was a huge failure.
Round 5, Pick 142–
Adrian Amos. Along with Goldman, Amos is the bright spot of this bad class. He has started 40 games in 3 years and played in another 4. Amos has brought stability to the backend of the Bears D. While 171 tackles, and 1 sack, in his first 3 years is fantastic, the 1 interception is a huge problem. For the Bears to be a great defense they need to take the ball away. If Amos can take the ball away it can bring him to another level, also it would improve this draft class grade.
Round 6, Pick 183–
Tayo Fabuluje. Tayo cut by the Bears in June of 2016. Appeared in as many games (4) as he was suspended for PED’s. Another lost draft pick, but the fact that he didn’t last longer then a year, and had the PED suspension, makes this pick an F-.
Without Amos or Goldman this draft would be one of the worst in NFL history. While we may all be excited about the prospects of the 2018 Draft we have to temper expectations. Each class needs at least 3 years before it can be judged fairly, so I’ll see you next year to grade the 2016 class!
