Chicago Bears Sign Zach Miller
The Chicago Bears have signed injured tight end Zach Miller.
Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy continue to show that this new Chicago Bears’ regime is a classy group. We have heard that Cameron Meredith and Matt Forte said the organization handled those situations well and that they spoke with them open and honestly about where they stood with the organization and even took it a step further with Forte and Devin Hester bringing them back on one-day contracts so they can retire as Chicago Bears.

Those classy moves have been taken a step further when it was announced today that the Chicago Bears have signed Zach Miller to a one-year contract. It’s a split contract meaning that Miller will receive $458,000 if he is unable to play this year and $760,000 if he can.
The truth is that Miller’s career is 99% certain to be over. His knee injury was catastrophic to the point that it was life threatening. But Miller was one of the most respected guys in the locker room so the Bears want to keep him around to help keep a positive attitude amongst the team.
What this also means is that when Miller is parked on the disabled list this year, he will still receive the full health benefits of an NFL player. Miller has had multiple surgeries to repair his injured leg and with more work to be done on it, having full health benefits and a $458,000 salary to boot is about as classy a move an organization can make for a player that they know has no NFL future.
Bears’ fans don’t hesitate to criticize this organization over its missteps. There have been many of the years so there’s no problem in doing that, most of the time it’s earned. However, in this case, Bears’ fans should take a step back and tip their cap to the entire organization. They have done a great job making their former players feel welcome and have really changed the vibe of the organization within the NFL and outside of it. This move with Miller is a tremendous job by Pace and everyone involved. Well done, Chicago Bears.
