Chicago Bears: Biggest Offseason Standout
Danny Trevathan has been a winner of the offseason for the Chicago Bears so far
While the offseason is far from over, Bleacher Report made a list of the top stand outs for each team in the NFL through mini-camps. They sorted through coaches quotes and found a player who really stood out in the coaches eyes, and may be poised for a big offseason. For the Chicago Bears, they chose Danny Trevathan. Their reasoning:
"When the Chicago Bears defense is on the field this offseason, most eyes are on rookie first-round pick Roquan Smith. But while Smith has been “doing well” according to defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, it seems veteran position-mate Danny Trevathan has been on fire during OTAs.“I know you guys are all interested in the rookies, and understandably so, but I think some of the veterans have gotten better through this time too,” Fangio told the media last week. “Guys like Trevathan. You may ask why. Well, last year he didn’t do any of this stuff. He didn’t do any OTAs, he hardly did any training camp, didn’t play in any preseason games, and to me, that set him back last year, and he was injured the year before. This is the first time he’s had a nice chunk of work. I see improvement with him.”"
When Vic Fangio goes out of his way to call you out, you are doing something right. Trevathan also made headlines this offseason when Roquan Smith shouted him out.

Smith mentioned that he had watched Trevathan as a player to mimic his game after since he was with the Denver Broncos. Trevathan said he was happy to show Smith the ropes and has helped ease the role of play calling for Smith.
There is no doubt that these efforts are going a long way in the praise that Fangio is giving his veteran linebacker.
It is a great point to mention that Trevathan did not have this time last offseason. That likely will not go a long way when it comes to the physical shape of Trevathan. However, every snap that Trevathan and Smith get to take next to each other, and every time that the two have to feel and communicate with each other, the stronger their bond will be.
These snaps are not the most important, but they definitely help. Fangio is noticing that Smith and Trevathan are gelling together and that Trevathan looks as good as ever.
This is a great sign for Chicago Bears fans moving forward. While it has not been talked about much, Danny Trevathan has been and could be a key piece to this team taking a huge step forward in 2018.
