Chicago Bears: Cutting Kevin White seems unlikely
The idea is going to come up throughout the summer, however it seems unlikely for Chicago Bears WR Kevin White to be released this summer
Nobody is going to argue for Kevin White. He has not been healthy. He is arguably the most over paid player on the team. On top of that, the team has declined his fifth year option. However, at the same time that does not mean that the team is going to let go of Kevin White.
Recently, NFL mocks selected one veteran for each team that would potentially be released this offseason. They chose Kevin White. NBC Sports Chicago added to the speculation with a post of their own.
Both commented on similar reasons. The injuries, he is a bust, the fact that the team invested heavily in replacing him this offseason. NBC Sports Chicago wisely suggested that his lack of special teams prowess could be his downfall.

While that would truly be the big reason to let go of Kevin White, it is still tough to argue for the Chicago Bears to move on from him in 2018. The fact of the matter is that even if the Chicago Bears release Kevin White this summer they are on the books for over $5 million. That money is guaranteed to White for being a first round pick.
It is tough to swallow that much money to get absolutely nothing. Even with expectations low, there is upside to keeping Kevin White around. Remember Kyle Fuller? The Bears declined his fifth-year option. Yes, White’s situation is different, but he also can show up motivated in his contract year.
Allen Robinson is coming off of an ACL injury. Taylor Gabriel is a role player who typically will need to be schemed open. Anthony Miller is a rookie. These three wide receivers look great next to each other healthy and when on paper. It is different when going through a 17 week season.
So, no Kevin White may not play special teams. Still, he has the highest ceiling of any other wide receiver outside of that big three. Heck, his upside might be bigger than some of those players.
If any of those three get hurt, they are happy they did not release him. Even if he comes in for red zone duty and catches a couple of touchdowns this season. Heck, even if he does find a way to provide special teams snaps. The Chicago Bears should try to get as much out of that $5 million as possible and only let go of him as a last result. So, even if the speculation heats up, do not trust that Kevin White will be released.
