Matt Forte has expressed his interest in a coaching job with the Chicago Bears. Should the Bears entertain the idea?

A few weeks ago, the Denver Broncos brought in Demarcus Ware as a pass rushing consultant. It is not a full time job, but Ware is going to come to Denver a few times per month to work with the pass rushing unit.

Matt Forte caught wind of the story and took his shot to be hired for a similar job by the Chicago Bears.

After a website took the tweet and turned it into a story titled “Matt Forte jokes about coaching Chicago Bears”. Matt Forte went back to twitter to make it very clear that he was not joking.

So, should the Chicago Bears take Forte seriously on his offer? First, it is fair to say that he is not going after anyones job. However, the next question is what the harm could be of bringing Forte into the building once a month to work with Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen.

It should be noted that this is not a rare occurrence with Demarcus Ware. The Pittsburgh Steelers like to bring back former veterans for training camp as part of an “internship process”. Noted players such as Hines Ward and Ike Taylor have earned coaching experience with week long training camp stints.

They made a similar decision with Joey Porter, that spiraled into Porter being named the teams outside linebackers coach.

So while Charles London’s job would not be pressed by Forte, he would at the least have experience to be a candidate when the team did move on from London.

On top of that, he could really get into the lab with Jordan Howard and work on his pass catching. Forte was one of the best in the business at hauling in passes. Any conversations these two have should be for the good.

The decision is totally on Matt Nagy. Ryan Pace had a small part in pushing Forte out, but if Forte feels comfortable returning, there must be no ill will. Nagy and Forte do not have a relationship, and the two would have to agree on teaching philosophy. If Nagy were open to it, bring in Forte for a week and see what happens. Why not?
