Madden Rating Projection: Tarik Cohen

If you were to predict what Madden Rating Tarik Cohen would have, what would you give him?

One of the first things any fan does when purchasing Madden is go straight do depth charts and look at their favorite players rating. It is always so tough to project the thought process that someone would go through to assign a Madden rating. So, we are going to give it a try. This series will project the Madden rating for every Chicago Bears player. Today, we look at Tarik Cohen.

2017 season

For reference, Tarik Cohen finished last season rated as an 80. That was in a season where he accumulated 370 rushing yards and 353 receiving yards. Last year, Gio Bernard finished with 458 rushing yards and 389 receiving yards and was rated an 81. Given his experience over the rookie and statical success, the 80 feels justified.

2018 season

Mike Clay of ESPN.com has projected Cohen to finish closer to 500 yards in the receiving category and in the same area as last year in receiving just over 300 yards.

If he can get the ball in his hands a bit more these feel more like floors to hit rather than ceilings. However, we do agree that he should receive for more yards than rush.

Player comparable

Last year, just five players had over 500 yards receiving while also recording over 300 rushing yards. The closes to a statisctal projection for Tarik Cohen next season would be Duke Johnson and Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey was rated an 83 last season and Duke Johnson was rated an 81. Gio Bernard, who was close to 500 receiving yards and dealt with injury.

Madden Projection: 81

Given him some progression in his statistics next season, he should be right there in the Duke Johnson and Gio Bernard style of player. He could easily jump up to an 83 if he is showing off his true abilities as a pass catching option.

However, for now he still has some game to prove. He will likely open a bit improved as there is hype around his name. An 81 rating for Tarik Cohen would feel pretty reasonable, though.
