What should Fantasy Football owners expect from Trey Burton in 2018?

“The Philly Special.”

Trey Burton is only 26 years old, but the biggest moment of his career may have already happened. Burton, of course, was the player that threw the touchdown pass to Nick Foles in the Super Bowl which we later found out was called, “The Philly Special” by coach Doug Pederson.

Burton is a Super Bowl champion and has left his Philadelphia career behind him and is looking to do bigger and better things with the Chicago Bears. New coach Matt Nagy is very excited for what Burton brings to the table and will be utilized frequently in the offense.

Burton was stuck behind Zach Ertz and wasn’t going to get major opportunities in Philly, but in Chicago, he has a chance to be second on the team in targets this season (Allen Robinson). What kind of jump will Burton see in his production? A significant one.

Burton was only targeted 31 times last season that netted him 23 catches for 248 yards. While those numbers are very low, what is interesting is that Burton did score 5 touchdowns in those limited looks, which shows you what kind of red zone target he can be.

Nagy is going to utilize several two tight end sets, for lack of a better term. Adam Shaheen and Dion Sims will see snaps at the traditional “in-line” tight end spot and Burton will play what is called the “move TE” in Nagy’s offense. The move TE won’t line up tight and will do little to no blocking. He’s more of a big receiver that will line up all over the field and provide Mitch Trubisky a great weapon to utilize in the midrange passing game.

Burton is going to jump into the TE1 category this season for fantasy players. It might be a low-level TE1, but he has plenty of upside. Pair him with a conservative TE that is consistent like Charles Clay and that way you have a safe backup if Burton doesn’t come through. But Burton could be had in the mid to late rounds as your TE and could have tremendous upside for your squad.
