If you were to make the ratings for the new Madden, what would be a fair rating for Chicago Bears guard Kyle Long?

The new Madden always brings outrage about a specific players rating. “He should have been at least three spots higher” everyone says it. However, nobody will write down in their mind what they think is a realistic number before seeing his number. They just see his number and react.

With that in mind, we are going to try to project what each player should be rated in the new Madden. Today, we look at Kyle Long.

2017 Review

There is always going to be the asterisk beside the name Kyle Long of *if he is healthy. Lets face it, over the past two seasons he has missed 15 games. If he can get back to his healthy self, he is going to be an upgrade over his current rating, which was a player playing through multiple injuries.

With that in mind, Kyle Long was rated a 78 last year.

Player Comparables

This would put him with Joe Berger, Ramon Foster, Zach Fulton, Forest Lamp, Justin Pugh, Stefan Wisniewski. Ramon Foster is underrated in his own right, Fulton and Pugh could arguably in their consideration but Long and Foster feel as though the top two guards in this group.

An interesting name is an inter-division rival T.J. Lang. Lang is 31, Long is 30. Long makes an average annual salary of $10 million, Lang with an average annual salary of $9.5 both have the reputation.

Of course, Long has missed the time. Still, Lang was missed 6 games in the past two seasons. Green Bay let go of him after missing time in 2017, and while his play was solid in 2018, it was a step off from expected.

Madden Projection: 82

Lang at 83 may be a bit high. However, he should come down a peg, while Long should come up a peg. His injury rating will be higher, but he is healthy of as of right now. When Long is healthy he can be a high level player, and deserve a higher rating.

The 70’s felt low, and a season long comparison to T.J. Lang may be worth following now. For the start of the season, both should be at 82.
